Clicking the Check Now button tells FrameSeer to download the contents of the file shown in the Version Check URL field, and to use that information to see whether a later version of FrameSeer has been released.
Upon completion, FrameSeer will display one of the following status messages:
Check for updates successful
If a newer version of FrameSeer has been released by LGOSystems, the latest version number will be shown in the Available Version field, otherwise this field will show “no later version found”.
The Last Checked field is set to the current time.
Unable to check for updates at this time
There are many reasons why FrameSeer may not be able to perform the check. Possibilities include:
-
Your computer may not be connected to the Internet. Fairly obviously, you need to have a properly configured Internet connection before this check will work.
-
A firewall may be interfering with the operation. The download occurs in the same way as if you had typed the Version Check URL into your favourite web browser. If the download works consistently in your browser but not in FrameSeer, it may indicate a bug. If so, please report it.
-
There may be a routing or other connectivity problem in your network or in one of the networks between you and the LGOSystems web server.
-
The LGOSystems web server may be down. In theory, the service is “high availability” but nothing is perfect.
Most network errors are transient so you should retry a few times before giving up.
The Go to Update Page button is a convenience. Clicking it tells FrameSeer to launch your default web browser with the URL shown in the Update Page URL field.
Once your browser opens the page, you will be able to download any updates that may be available for FrameSeer.
